【lecture】サービスデザイン：手業なきデザイン？（イベント終了）
サービスデザインは、類型的な手工芸とは異なるデザイン行為である。
別の言い方をすれば、これは製作の技術や職人芸といった技能をベースに理解されるべきデザイン実践ではない。
サービスデザインは、複数の入れ子的な、そして連続した問題群と関連するもので、これらの問題には戦術的に取り組むと同時に戦略的に全容をとらえることが必要である。
したがってその成果は個々のデザインアイテムにとどまらない。相互関係のあるプロセスが結びついたネットワークや、特定のユーザー経験を促進するために組織化されるデザインでもない。
この講義では、手業なきデザインは「デザイン」と言えるのか、という立場からサービスデザインを考える。

ニコラス・ローズ氏は、2014年に英国のクリエイティブ経済力向上への貢献により「Queen’s Anniversary Prize」を受賞した本学協定校であるロンドン芸術大学セントラル・セント・マーチンズ（以下CSM）のプロダクト、セラミック、インダストリアルデザインのMA、BAレベルを統括するプログラムディレクターをつとめ、種々の教育プログラムの改革を主導している。
彼は、セントラル・スクール・オブ・アート＆デザイン大学院で修士を取得後、デザインの教育者、デザイナーとして長年活動し、海外での講演やデザイン教育指導等はもとより、数多くの国際企業をはじめ英国政府のプロジェクトや海外政府機関のデザイン開発等に従事、また、近年は、ブランディングデザインとその社会事業化に注力している。また、2014年2月に本学を含む5大学が集まって東京で開催された本学主催の「Global Design Education Forum 2014 in Tokyo」にも新しいグローバルデザイン教育のビジョン策定メンバーとして、CSMを代表して参加している。
Open Lecture by Nicholas Rhodes
Title: Service Design: design without craft?
Outline: Service Design is a form of design practice divorced from typological craft. In other words instead of being a design practice that understands and defines itself through its skills base – skills of execution and craftsmanship, it engages with a range of multiple nested and sequential problems that require a strategic overview along with tactical specificities. Its outputs therefore are not just individual items: “designs”, rather than a linked network of interrelated processes and designed things orchestrated to promote a particular user experience.
This lecture looks at service design and asks if a practice can really be called “design” if it is one without craft?

Nick is a Designer and Educator of some 20 years in practice.
His design work encompasses industrial design, branding and new product development. He has devised, designed, and directed projects for international brands including CNN Bespoke, Moët & Chandon, Montblanc, and Molton Brown. He has also worked for governmental development agencies including The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Jamaica Trade and Invest, Caribbean Export Development Agency, the London Development Agency, and the Centre for Development of Enterprise Brussels.
He has taught at Bachelors & Masters levels in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, China, the Caribbean, and Australia. Nick currently holds the post of Programme Director for Product, Ceramic & Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. His courses are holders of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for industrial and product design’s contribution to the strength of the creative economy.
His research interests meet at the convergence of luxury design and social enterprise.
